Sound Postcard : 25 : Marching Band

Happy Thanksgiving to my US readers and listeners! It seems that I have been busy these last couple of months sharing with you Guest Sound Postcards from my favorite artists… That doesn’t mean that I stopped capturing the world through the microphone myself… Here’s a quick treat for you, fresh off the press – a recording of a passing through marching band at a parade…

I especially like the slow sound procession from the right channel to the left, and then slowly receding into the dense atmosphere of the crowd…

  1. gotta love those quads (the main percussion you hear in this piece). that was always a favourite sound when i was in a marching band. i think i would let the quads and their rapid-fire rimshots seep into my brain more than the sound of my own trumpet. as an aside, i lost my shoe one time when starting a marching contest some years ago…boy was that turf ice cold when drenched with a late autumn rain. i finished the march however!
