Sound Postcard : 21 : Cherchez la Femme
23Jun10
On the way from an airport, my driver struck up an hour long conversation. A lot of interesting things were said [and all of them recorded]. His Hungarian accent, deep voice, and articulation at concepts kept me entertained for the entire ride. There’s plenty of interesting material in there, but for now I’ll share this 20 second clip.
Apologies for the sound quality. I spent a few minutes reducing some noise, but it also removed the low frequencies, and left a telephone-like effect. It might have even made it more interesting.

I don’t think I’ve heard of this “look for the woman” French wisdom before. Can there be wisdom without this French wisdom, or has all wisdom I’ve encountered before now somehow inferior to this? :o)
Look – I think the French have been looking “for the woman” much longer. Whether or not they have found “the woman” is left to a debate, but they have certainly perfected the art. Van Gogh moved to Paris in 1886 at the ripe age of 33. Two years later, he cut off the lower part of his ear lobe and gave it to a prostitute, named Rachel. Years later, American poet Charles Bukowski, observed in a poem, addressed to Van, titled “Working Out” that “whores don’t want ears / they want money. / I guess that’s why you were such a great painter : you didn’t understand much else.” Now, if you don’t mind, I’ll depart to polish off this bottle of tequila, so that I can regret later, for commenting on this post.
“Cherchez la femme” is only the first step. “Trouvez la femme”* is the ultimate goal…
* Find the woman.
